What word would you use to describe this? It's not overrated, and it's not underrated. It's like a combination?

If there's a rapper that's very good, and is critically and commercially very successful, (Lupe Fiasco, Outkast, Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem, etc.), but the mainstream audience only sees the surface of the artist, and only likes their radio hits, while the underground fans can appreciate song meanings, and whatnot, what would you call that?
