What Could an ambulance ride cost $2500?would you like to ask?

I called the police for a friend because she was suicidal, and she said that her family was getting billed $2500. When I made the decision to call the police one of the first things I asked was if she would be billed, and the man on the hotline I called said not unless they send an ambulance and I asked that the police just knocked on her door to make sure she was going to be okay, because I knew her parents couldn't pay for that. I'm afraid that between me the hotline worker and the police there may have been a misunderstanding and the ambulance could have been called. However, I'm wondering if it really would cost that much?
